What Is The Difference Between A Church, A Basilica, A Chapel And A Cathedral?

a basilica is a church with specific architectural features or historical significance. The Pope may designate Basilicas due to their religious, historical, or architectural importance. There are two types of basilicas: basilicas major and basilicas minor.1

The Basilicas Major are the four personal churches of the pope and are in and around Rome. Basilicas minor can be found around the world and are rewarded that status by the pope, usually because of some sort of historical, spiritual, or architectural significance.1

A chapel is a small place of worship that is subordinate or private. It can be a room or recess inside a church or a building, or a separate house of worship associated with a main church. It can also be used by a Christian group other than an established church. It has its own altar and may serve a residence or institution like a palace, hospital, or prison.2

What is An Arch?
An arch is a curved structure that spans an opening or space and may support weight or pressure from above or the sides. The arch formed the basis for the evolution of the vault. The curve in an arch may be semicircular, segmental, or pointed; noncircular curves can also be used successfully.​
